About Course

This course is designed for students who are looking to improve on their Academic English skills to progress into a vocational or tertiary qualification later. We have vocational programs in place in which students can progress into the course after the completion of their Academic English studies. Students are provided with exemplary supplementary material for further learning and development.

This course is built around the macro-skills in an academically oriented fashion.

Requirements

Academic English 1: Intermediate
Entry Level – International English Language Testing System (IELTS) 5 OR General English Intermediate proficiency.

Academic English 2: Upper Intermediate
Entry Level – International English Language Testing System (IELTS) 5.5 OR General English Upper Intermediate proficiency.

Academic English 3: Advanced
International English Language Testing System (IELTS) 6 OR General English Advanced proficiency.

 

English Language Rating System

  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS): 5.0 (with no minimum sub-score below 4.5);
  • Test of English as Foreign Language Internet Based Testing (TOEFL IBT): 61 (with no minimum sub-score below 14);
  • International Second Language Proficiency Ratings (ISLPR): 2 (in all skills);
  • Pearson Testing English Academic (PTE Academic): 39;
  • Gateway English: Placement Test – General English Upper-Intermediate level Passing grade – General English Intermediate level.

Progression of Academic language skills are evaluated. A student can complete 4 weeks of a level and attain a minimum mark of 66% on their exams at an average.
Students will complete the final exam for the level and also pass with minimum mark 66% to progress to the next level.

Program duration

A full course includes a total duration of 48 weeks, which includes:

  • Study Period: 40 weeks
  • Holiday Breaks: 8 weeks

 

Mode of Study and Attendance

Our Academic English classes are taught 20 hours a week. Academic English is provided online. Students are required to attend a minimum of 80% of all their classes.

 

Award

On successfully completing a General English course, at Salisbury College Australia, students will obtain a General English Certificate of Achievement for their course. This is awarded to the student who has attained 80% attendance for all their classes and has achieved satisfactory academic performance.

  • 80% attendance
  • 66% on exam marks on average for all the exams.

Class Sizes

Each class has a student capacity of 18 students. Smaller classes allow the teacher to focus individually on each student at a much deeper level, their individual learning needs.

Timetable Options

We offer two different timetable options, to suit our student’s needs and preferences. There are 2 types of shifts: morning or evening shift. Classes will be created based on the number of students enrolled.
